Recently Dell launched its Dell Mini 3i in China. It debuted during the launch of China Mobile’s mobile application retail outlet called the Mobile Market. After being lost in the gadget war with Apple’s MP3 player, Dell Inc. was working to sort out a comprehensive new consumer strategy for the last two years but it kept quiet and intentionally avoided any publicity about its forthcoming ventures. Though they are in the market for a few years now, still their market share isn’t that good and goodwill is far to achieve. Executives admitted that they needed a great re-launch, with something far more inspiring than its mostly me-too PCs. And it needed some innovative ideas to show how it could make money and at the same time compete with their arch rival Apple Inc.

And at last it came out with its new product Dell Mini 3i in the Chinese market. Former Motorola CEO Ed Zander, Garrigues remarked that, “They should be able to sell five million units with they’re eyes closed”.

But the biggest downside to the Dell Mini3i is that it is a 2G phone with no 3G or Wi-Fi capability. It has a 3.5-inch touchscreen with 360 by 640 resolution, mini USB port, SD card slot (no word on maximum storage size), and a 3.2-megapixel camera. Netease, A Chinese blog reviewing the specifications and performance of Mini 3i informs that it has no physical keyboard, and runs an Android-based operating system designed by China Mobile called Open Mobile System (OMS). Without 3G and Wi-Fi capability- the basic requirements for today’s GenX, Dell’s Mini3i has little chance to impress the Chinese consumers. There is tough competition with popular smartphones like Blackberry, iPhone, and Palm Pre which have flooded the Chinese market. Dell’s strategy may fall short this time too as what they intended for is not the choice for the consumers. Dell’s Mini3i has failed to woo the Chinese consumers.

Dell has not been successful in capturing a marketshare yet. It lost a major war in the MP3 player market before its arch rival Apple Inc. Since then they have been trying hard to take some innovative consumer strategies. They want to re enter the market with a bang. Recently Dell has also joined the race along with the Sony, LG and Saygus to release an Android based Smartphone, Dell Mini 3iX in the early 2010. These big companies have chosen Android as the Operating System which runs behind the boards to give fast access to the user interface without compromising in the performance.

Dell’s Mini 3iX has cleared the FCC to support 850 and 1900 AT&T’s 3G bands which it employs for high speed network along with Wi-Fi connectivity is expected to launch in the US via AT&T. The specs of the device are yet to be announced officially, but from the recent leaks it may be expected that the Chinese version handset runs a 360 x 640 resolution, a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen, GPS, Microsoft Exchange support added with a 3 megapixel camera coupled with autofocus and LED flash. The main difference between this version of the phone and the Chinese one is the inclusion of WiFi and 3G support, with Mini 3ix coming with 850 and 1900 MHz bands, a 3.5 inch touchcscreen display (640 x 360 pixels), A-GPS and a 3 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash. Microsoft Exchange is also on the specs list, plus a microSD card slot and a virtual keyboard.
On the other hand The Dell Mini 10 has everything you want in a mobile companion. Its highly portable design is complete with wireless and entertainment features. Now with a multi-touch track pad and next-generation WiFi, all on a 10.1″ seamless display with a 16:9 aspect ratio, Dell Mini 10 might satisfy many of your needs and at a affordable price.

HP has the most shelf space of any PC manufacturer at key retail locations such as Best Buy. This is a huge advantage and something that can’t be underestimated by HP’s competition. Several sites and technology magazines have been reviewing HP netbooks and also giving them ratings. Among them CNET and netviewreview.com requires mention. They not only review every aspect of these new launches netbooks by HP but they also ask the users to rate the product so that future users may decide whether to buy or not.

Here are a few HP’s netbook review excerpts:

A lot of netbooks look and feel like toys, but HP’s Mini 1000 Netbook with design cues borrowed from its Pavilion notebooks, making it the best looking netbook to date. This Mini 1000 is an excellent choice for anyone who understands the limitations of a netbook, likes the idea of simplicity and favors style over having a couple of extra ports and plugs. The Mini 1000 is a consumer netbook, which means it’s geared towards casual users, not business users who generally need more durable devices.

The HP Mini 311 is currently one of the best netbooks on the market, and has received a great review. But it looks like the HP 311 is only going to get better, with a number of optional upgrades becoming available soon. The 11.6-inch HP Mini 311 netbook is currently available with Windows XP operating system

HP recently announced their 13.3-inch Pavilon DM3 laptop, but it appears that they have another new model on its way, with a smaller size.

The HP Pavilion DM1 is an 11.6-inch thin and light model, much more on the size of typical netbooks. The HP DM1 is expected to feature an Intel CULV (consumer ultra low voltage) Celeron Dual-Core SU2300 processor, 2GB of DDR3 RAM (supports upto 5GB), Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics, a 320GB / 500GB hard drive, and have an 11.6 inch LED backlit LCD with a 1366 x 768 pixel resolution.

Lenovo’s IdeaPad S10e offers some improved features that were already owned by its predecessor, such as the music player, photo viewer and instant messaging client that are more successful applied in the speed stakes.

Graphic ability of IdeaPad S10e are powered by Intel integrated GMA 950 and the output to a screen with 10.1-inch, TFT, WSVGA, LED with original resolution of 1,024 x 600 pixels. This produces good contrast and sharp colors, while the coating can reduce reflections from office standard lighting or sun light when you would be using it outside in a sunny day. Lenovo IdeaPad S10e has a 1.3-megapixel camera as well.

This notebook is one of the thinnest and lightest netbook in its class although the extended battery is fitting. Multi-touch features is running well and is claimed as the biggest advantages while the keyboard and touch pad are also easy to use because the layout is large enough and gives enough space to press the buttons, although it seems small in first view but in fact is very user friendly. The biggest crinkle on the S10e is the right Shift key which is located to the right of the up arrow button.

This netbook is working well with consistent performance and can run multitasks and flash at the same time without problems. Special features available in Lenovo IdeaPad S10e are Quick Start Linux OS that feature browsing the web, viewing the photo and many other features that boots in fast time. You can plug in your headset and hear surround audio with Lenovo netbook 3g Dolby. Interestingly, beside XP Home edition you also can operate Mac Os X but for it you require a copy of the MSIWindowsx86.iso distribution and an external USB DVD drive to boot the ISO.

Major difference of appearance with previous edition is a change in screen size that is reduced from 10.2″ to 10.1″ which apparently makes it ready for the targeted segment – students at school.

Despite being targeted for young people, Lenovo IdeaPad S10e has a well-done design that is enough to appeal to mature people. The growing sales show that users of this netbook are coming from various segments.

MSI Notebook previously known as U110 Eco and with its efficient power handling, it has a wonderful power backup and have a great battery life. The previous model of MSI U110 was just the same as that of the U100 but definitely built with a hybrid technology, which is compatible with both the SSD and the standard HHD and therefore gives, maximum power storage with a low power usage.

The MSI notebook is now available in four colors and with a two set up of the hardware configuration. Available in Black, pink, white and the latest love edition that has a design with a magnificent heart-line process. The hardware configuration is just around the 80GB or the 120GB harddisk capacity. However, in comparison to the other notebooks in the market, the MSI netbook can be described to be toyish in features but definitely a cool looking PC. This net book cannot be said to be too flashy rather it is neatly designed on its sides and corners and have no sharp edges at all.

The MSI wind netbook has a special IMR (Insert Mold Roller) technology, which protects the notebook from fading, and also in reducing the fingerprints, which makes the MSI, wind looks outstanding and glaring. In the other features, you can find the speakers, which are at the front corners, and then there is the power connector, the two USB ports and the heat vents. It has also a 4-in-1 card reader, which is well supported by the MMC, the SD, the Memory stick and the MSPRO formats and also an Ethernet jack.

The netbooks by the MSI has a lid screen which holds to the friction. However, you have to unlock a hinge to open the lid but the whole machine will comes up if you are not using both of your hands for opening it but after opening the screen you can open the to a maximum angle.

HP was actually an early player in the Netbook field. The HP Mini is a convenient alternative to carrying your primary notebook PC everywhere you go. Smaller and more portable than your notebook. HP was actually an early player in the Netbook field. The company’s business system side came up with the Mini-Note 2133 in spring 2008, with a solid brushed-metal chassis and a nearly full-size keyboard. Unfortunately, this predated Intel’s Atom CPU, and rather than using the Celeron processor that came with the very first Netbooks, HP went with an underpowered Via C7-M, which pretty much killed any chance it had of becoming a mainstream product. HP made another move into the mini-laptop, or netbook, market today, unveiling three models priced from $379-$699. They have the same basic hardware specs: they are each less than 1 inch thick, weigh a little over 2 pounds, and come with a built-in web cam and microphone. They’re powered by an Atom 1.6 GHz processor (the netbook processor of choice) and have a 1024-by-600 glass display with an LED backlight (8.9 or 10.2 inch diagonal display), an Ethernet jack, 2 USB ports, Wi-Fi ( 802.11bg WAN) and Bluetooth wireless capabilities, and a keyboard that is slightly smaller than standard size. You also have your choice of a solid state hard drive (SSD) or mechanical hard drive (HDD).

The first model available today is called the HP Mini 1000; it comes in black only, runs XP Home Edition and is priced at $399. The second model had its shell designed by fashionista Vivienne Tam and the look was debuted in New York last month when Tam unveiled her Spring collection. The final model is by far the most interesting one that HP has to offer. Priced at $379, the HP Mini 1000 with MIE (Mobile Internet Experience) is about as pure a netbook as you can get with web-only applications designed by HP.

All these netbooks have created a lot of speculations and interest among the computer savvy people. Reviews have also encouraged and ratings are also high making HP Netbooks a popular brand.

One of the reasons why netbooks are so popular nowadays is their small size other than its low price. They are easy to carry around and offer the utility of work and entertainment. One of the major players in the netbook market is HP. Details on upcoming HP notebooks have been leaked by some Dutch sites.

The new models according to these sites will include the 11.6-inch DM1, 13.3-inch DM3, and the 18.4-inch DV8. The DM1 will be based on Intel’s Consumer Ultra Low Voltage (CULV) platform, utilizing ULV Pentium Dual-Core and Core 2 processors, while the DM3 will replace the current dv2 and use an AMD Neo MV-40 single-core processor. The dv8 will use Intel Core i7 processors. All will come with Windows 7 Operating System. The dm1, which boasts of a 11.6-inch screen is based on ULV-processor Intel and is able to work out on a single charge the battery up to 9 hours. The dm1 PC series is for those who want the portability of a regular netbook, but with the technical specifications of a more performance-capable system. Pavilion dv8 has 18.4-inch HP Bright view Infinity Display with 1920×1080 pixel resolution. Fabulous for HD content viewing, HP added performance level Nvidia GeForce GT 230M graphics with 1GB dedicated video memory and HDMI out for taking HD content to larger HD screen. Prices indicate the dv8 will be around 1400 Euros (more like $1,400 in the U.S., since notebooks are traditionally more expensive in Europe) and the DM1 will be 480 Euros (probably $480 in the U.S.). A later version of the DM1 with better specifications will be 680 Euros (probably $680 in the U.S.).

The Pavilion TM2 has also been leaked; it is a tablet and expected to be similar to the current tx2. It is possible that the TM2 will not have an internal optical drive.

Therefore look out for these new netbooks, they will certainly make you feel more savvy.
