Using OS X on the Lenovo Netbook

By admin, June 19, 2010 in Lenovo Netbook |

When one mentions “OS X”, he is definitely associating the operating system with Apple computers. Well, this is true because it is bundled with Apple computing machines and you will not find any support for other computing machine that will use the OS X. As a short introduction, the OS X is the newest operating system of Mac laptops and desktops. It is the version 10, from the previous OS 9 that Apple computers are using before. Therefore the OS X is specifically designed for the Apple computer hardware. To use this on other computing machine is tantamount to fitting a square peg on a round hole. Most computer hardware works best with Windows or Linux because most average people prefer to use Windows. There are low-cost computers that can accommodate Windows XP. The OS X on the other hand is more popular with graphics designers and with those who can afford a Macbook.

The idea of using OS X on the Lenovo Netbook can be taken as some sort of experiment. Recently, the OS X was successfully installed on other computing machine. Typically Lenovo offers netbooks bundled with Windows 7, Vista, XP or Linux operating system. Having OS X running on Lenovo netbook is like trying to work out the impossible. Well, the installation of OS X was successful except for the following glitches:

  • The Ethernet is not working
  • The Wi-fi will only work after installing the needed component, which can be downloaded through websites offering it
  • The multi-touch is not also working but the buttons are fine
  • There is no sleep mode
  • The sound system is not supported

Other hardware works fine such as:

  • The webcam
  • USB ports – if you can’t use the net book’s Wi-Fi you can use the USB internet dongle
  • The touchpad buttons
  • Graphics card

You definitely need to patch components to make the OS X work on Lenovo. Fortunately, installation is relatively easy but to run this smoothly is definitely another story. In addition, there are other applications that are reported to crash on OS X but runs perfectly well on other operating system.

Most netbooks nowadays use the Intel Atom processor. A recent OS X upgrade had changed the way this operating system communicates with this computer hardware having the Intel Atom processor. There are reports and user reviews indicating the recent incompatibility issues brought about by the recent OS X upgrade. For whatever reason that the OS X creators and developers have in mind, there are always excellent hackers out there who would try their best to make possible the OS X running on Lenovo netbook.

Given the above-mentioned assumption becomes true, the question now here is: Is Lenovo netbooks ready to use the OS X on massive scale? The answer to this question will now depend if the OS X developers will be ready to embrace the idea of running the OS X on other computing machines other than the Apple Macbook.
